Zuck’s Next Mobile Move May Be His Biggest
What does Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg have planned for mobile now? Perhaps something bigger than we’ve ever seen before from the social networking giant.
According to published reports that have escalated in frequency over the last 48 hours, Facebook is ready to launch its long-rumored mobile advertising network.
“Facebook will take the wraps off its plans for a mobile ad network at its ‘F8′ developer conference in San Francisco at the end of the month,” says Re/Code‘s Mike Isaac, citing sources close to the social network of more than one billion users.
For now, Facebook isn’t offering comment on the speculation. Then again, they don’t have to. Three months ago, the social network publicly confirmed their testing of a mobile ad network that would launch Facebook into an entirely new arena of the mobile advertising industry.
“In the past,” Isaac explains, “Facebook stayed away from building out an ad network because it was busy trying to sell ads on its own Web site. And it couldn’t contemplate a mobile ad network until recently because it didn’t have any mobile ads of its own.”
