Twitter restructures regional leadership team after recent resignations

After the recent resignation of Parminder (Parry) Singh and Rishi Jaitly from senior leadership roles at Twitter, the company has restructured its APAC leadership team. Under the new structure, the INSEA/MENA region will now be split with MENA aligned to EMEA and INSEA aligned to APAC region for Twitter.

Mr Singh announced his decision to step down from his role as Managing Director – Twitter (Southeast Asia/India/MENA) earlier in the day in a series of tweets. “After leading Twitter in Asia’s most exciting markets (India/SEA/MENA) for 3 yrs, time to move on to new passions #BeenAPrivilege,” Mr Singh said.

Mr Jaitly had also resigned from his position as VP, Asia Pacific & Middle East North Africa, with tweets on November 1, 2016. “Today, after four years of user/business momentum in India & the region, I’m sharing my intention to move on to new opportunities, same mission,” Mr Jaitly said.

The two resignations come after Twitter said in the latest third quarter results that it would cut nine per cent of its global workforce, because of a slowdown in quarterly revenue growth.

Twitter said in an official statement to Digital Market Asia that as part of their sales restructuring process, the MENA region will now be part of their EMEA business, while Southeast Asia & India will remain part of their Asia Pacific business, headed by Aliza Knox, VP of Asia Pacific.

Maya Hari has been appointed as the new Managing Director of Southeast Asia and India reporting to Aliza Knox. Ms Hari previously managed Twitter’s Ads Product Strategy & Adoption for Asia Pacific, MENA and Latin America.

“For India, Taranjeet Singh continues to be Twitter’s Business Head for India and remains the key client contact for Indian brand marketers and advertisers,” the company spokesperson said.

Commenting on Mr Singh’s departure, a Twitter spokesperson said, “We thank Parry for his contributions and leadership over the past three years at Twitter. He has been instrumental in setting up a strong business foundation across Southeast Asia, India and MENA, including some of our most promising emerging markets. Parry felt now is an appropriate time for him to pursue other passions and work on his next adventure to help a content-based start up in Singapore and India. Over the next month, he will be closely involved in transitioning the business to the new leadership for continuity and momentum. We wish Parry all the best and will continue to invest in these important regions to make Twitter the best way to see what’s happening right now around the world.”

On Mr Jaitly’s resignation, a Twitter spokesperson told Digital Market Asia, “We thank Rishi for his contributions, entrepreneurship and leadership over the past four years at Twitter. He was our first person on the ground to bring Twitter into the high-growth Indian market; has driven bold, strategic partnerships to enter and grow new markets for Twitter; and has successfully built up our Media Partnerships teams across the Asia Pacific and Middle East. There will be a smooth transition as his last day is in late November after which he will move back to the US, but will remain engaged in India, as he pursues new opportunities to harness the power of technology and scale of mass media to empower voices, particularly in emerging markets. We wish him all the best and will continue to invest in these important regions to make Twitter the best way to see what’s happening right now around the world.”
