Trending in India: #betipadhaokiranbanao to #WontGiveItBack
#betipadhaokiranbanao
This week, India continued to be in the grips of the political frenzy in the Capital City, the elections are dated for February 7 but the drama started way before. All the television news channels, newspaper, and social media have been talking about the Kiran Bedi versus Arvind Kejriwal battle that is in full swing in the Indian capital, New Delhi.
Following this movement, fans of Dr Bedi got #betipadhaokiranbanao trending in India this week. With its foundation in the girl child education in India #betipadhaokiranbanao sets an aspiration standard for the Indian community and how education is capable of transforming the ideology of a nation. Dr Bedi may or may not be able to form a government in the centre but the announcement of her candidature by the Bhartiya Janata Party prior to the elections has already stirred the political euphoria in India.
Also, several other trends such as #AAPVision4Delhi, #bedifaninaap, #askkejriwal, among others kept Twitter users hooked for the entire week and will continue to do so until the election in Delhi wrap-up.
#WontGiveItBack
Besides #betipadhaokiranbanao, there was one particular trend that grabbed my attention was #WontGiveItBack. It is an ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 Campaign to restore the cricket euphoria in India despite trends like #CricketFanCheated making rounds on the social networking sites.
#CricketFanCheated was circling the row on the IPL (Indian Premier League) spot fixing but what I found particularly interesting about #CricketFanCheated is that it garnered large viewership for Arnab Goswami’s Newshour debate where he invited 11 panelists. It was a rare occasion that the number of panelists were in a double digit figure.
Star Sports tweeted, “Team India has made up its mind ahead of the World Cup – they #WontGiveItBack!”. No sporting event trends like cricket and this World Cup is no exception. Over the next week we will see more advertisement campaigns coming up to boost the morale of the cricket fans in India and take the World Cup fever forward.
The World Cup does not begin until February 14 but advertisers are way too over excited to bank on the opportunities in this Cricket crazy nation. The warm up matches commence on February 8 and no one is going to get a rest until the World Cup season winds up this time. But for ‘Trending in India’, we will continue to find something new that will tell you about the mood of the nation. Until then, let’s gear up for the Republic Day Parade on January 26.
