#sowhoknew: Ashton Kutcher gets offered a job in media? – CES 2015 Day 4
I’m going to offer Ashton Kutcher a job. Given the fact that he is most notably an actor (who, as one member of the audience intimated, are not always necessarily the sharpest tools in the box) this guy was not only incredibly well informed but he delivered his message with considerable aplomb.
Kutcher was being interviewed as part of the Ignition Factory 4th Annual Startup soiree at the Venetian in Las Vegas where fourteen innovative startups held dynamic conversations with key clients from around the globe.
Our very own Monica Karo ,OMD USA CEO, interviewed Ashton about his heavy involvement in tech start-ups and how he has taken significant investment positions in the likes of Airbnb, Uber, Foursquare, Yplan and Skype.
A+ itself launched in 2011 and positions itself as “a platform that will leverage viral social storytelling to create positive change in the world”. And to that point, AK was amazingly passionate about some of the planet’s more serious issues particularly that of child exploitation which he challenged the industry to put their weight behind and help try and eradicate. The fact that he and his partner (the actress Mila Kunis) just had their first child recently undoubtedly added even more emotion to his support for the cause.
A+ is a social-driven technology platform with a growing audience of 50 million monthly visitors. A+ enables online content creators to extend the reach and value of their content with advanced editorial and monetisation tools.
One of the reasons why A+ is one of the fastest growing sites on the internet is because Kutcher is an avid promoter of A+ on his verified Twitter and Facebook pages. He is well known as an avid tweeter and has almost 17 million followers. His Facebook page has over 18 million ‘likes’ and is almost exclusively curated content from his A+ site with just the occasional comment or ‘Two and a Half Men’ video from the man himself.
It was interesting (and somewhat surprising) to hear him say that his preference is Facebook and he was quite disparaging about the inflexibility of Twitter saying it was no more than a fancy looking RSS. Ouch.
His engaging thoughts on the intersection of social engagement, media and business were very impressive indeed. And he was barely distracted by the eruption of a mock volcano over at the Mirage (only in Vegas). So Ashton, if the acting work ever dries up and A+ doesn’t become the stellar success we expect it to be then give me a bell. You never know, we might be able to find something for you…
