Social network ad spend rising rapidly in China
Social network advertising will reach USD 25.14 billion this year, according to an eMarketer estimate. Out of the total, just over 30 per cent will be spent in Asia-Pacific, and of that, nearly half will be spent in China alone.
eMarketer’s estimate highlights that Chinese advertisers will spend USD 3.41 billion on social network ads this year. This is interesting to note as China is a market where the world’s largest social network, Facebook and several other major networks are not even accessible.
Advertisers in China will spend 11 per cent of their total digital budgets on social network placements this year, a figure that will rise to 12.5 per cent by 2017, when social network ad spending in the country reaches USD 6.11 billion. Spending will continue to grow at solid double-digit levels through the end of eMarketer’s forecast period.
The data also highlighted that social network ad spending is also growing rapidly on a per-user basis. This year, for each social network user in China, advertisers will spend USD 7.09 trying to reach them, which is up more than USD 2 since last year, and will rise to USD 11.18 by 2017.
