Mobile World Congress 2015: Google, Microsoft, Sony, Samsung and Others Will Showcase New Smartphones, Tablets, Wearables

Mobile World Congress 2015 Google, Microsoft, Sony, Samsung and Others Will Showcase New Smartphones, Tablets, WearablesThe 2015 Mobile World Congress will kick off soon in Barcelona, Spain and many of the exhibitors will be toting pretty big suitcases.

That’s because a host of major mobile honchos will be packing brand new products to promote — from smartphones to tablets to the latest wearables.

Scheduled for March 2-5, MWC has become the priority event of the year for businesses around the globe. It’s the world’s largest exhibition for the mobile industry with attendees representing mobile operators, device manufacturers, technology providers, vendors, and content owners. More than 4,500 global CEOs will be among the 85,000 attendees.

What to expect?

A recent post at PC Advisor provides an excellent rundown of the new models and capabilities of MWC participants, including Google, Microsoft, Samsung, Sony, Huawei, HTC, and others.

“Samsung will almost certainly … announce the Galaxy S6. All eyes will be on the flagship device but Samsung is unlikely to stop there with a Galaxy S6 Edge, Galaxy S6 mini, budget handsets, and others all possible,” notes the report.

As for wearables, Samsung is expected to challenge Motorola, LG, and others with a round smartwatch codenamed the ‘Orbis’ which will come with wireless charging capability.

Industry insiders say Sony is most likely to introduce new wearable products from its “SmartWear” line following the launch of its SmartWatch 3 and SmartBand Talk in 2014.

Even Microsoft — which doesn’t always “do the shows” — could make a splash at MWC.

“We expect to hear more about Windows 10 on smartphones and tablets,” contends PC Advisor. “We could certainly see some new devices unveiled but a new flagship Lumia (the Lumia 940?) is less likely and will probably be announced later in the year closer to the full launch of Windows 10.”

And then there’s Google.

“Google normally announces Nexus smartphones and tablets at its own launch events such as Google I/O. However, the rumor mill suggests Google will present is modular smartphone called Project Ara at MWC this year,” says PC Advisor.
