Of the 13 million Australians who use Facebook monthly, over nine million use the platform daily and access it on mobile. Mobile is the first screen for Australians and one out of every three minutes on mobile is spent on Facebook properties. People access Facebook on mobile throughout the day, peaking between 2pm-5pm and after 8pm.
Half of all Australians use Facebook every month, spending an average of 1.7 hours per day on the platform, according to a Nielsen study.
The report highlighted that students, Millennials and mums are the most active on Facebook with 80 per cent of 16-24 year-olds and more than two in three mums accessing the network daily.
The social media platform is also used to discover brands, the report highlights as 60 per cent of Australian users discover a business or product on the network, and go on to learn more about the product on Facebook or the business’ website. Furthermore, 35 per cent of people who discover a business or product on Facebook continue to share or discuss with their peers.
According to the study, people are watching and posting videos on Facebook more than ever. Over half of Australians on Facebook watch video on the platform every day and the number of video posts per person has increased by 52 per cent. Australians spend 1.16 hours each month streaming video on Facebook. Young consumers are most likely to discover video, the report highlighted.
The report also highlighted that while watching TV, over 70 per cent of Facebook users between 25-44 dual-screen and over a third of mums do so most or all of the time.
