Facebook introduces Facebook Lite app
Facebook has launched a new Facebook Lite app for Android phone which would work better in areas where the network is slow or the bandwidth is at a minimum. The app uses less data and works well across all network conditions.
The new app launched will be rolled in countries across Asia starting June 4, 2015 and will subsequently be launched in Latin America, Africa and Europe as well.
Vijay Shankar, Product Manager for Facebook Lite, said in an official blog post, “More than a billion people around the world access Facebook from a range of mobile devices on varying networks. In many areas, networks can be slow and not able to support all the functionality found in Facebook for Android. Facebook Lite was built for these situations, giving people a reliable Facebook experience when bandwidth is at a minimum.”
The app is less than 1MB and has all the core features of Facebook such as News Feed, status updated and photos.
