Data pick of the day: 70% online Baby Boomers have FB account
Amongst the three age groups – Baby Boomers (now the senior citizen consumer base), Gen X and Millennials (born after 1982) – Facebook is still the leading platform. Nearly 90 per cent of Millennials are members, with over 50 per cent actively using the service each month.
Although the figures are a bit lower for the Baby Boomers, they’re still fairly impressive: close to three quarters in this generation are on Facebook, and around 40 per cent say they actively use it. No other network can boast such a cross-generation appeal.
The importance of Facebook-owned Instagram to younger users is also pretty clear from these figures. Over a third of Millennials now say they have an account on the photo-sharing service – considerably more than in Gen X (c. 20 per cent) or among the Boomers (just 7 per cent).
