MWG Japan hires new Chief Client Officer
McCann Worldgroup Japan has appointed Antony (Tony) Cundy as chief client officer, effective immediately. Previously the CEO of Wunderman Japan, he reports to Charles Cadell, representative director, president and CEO of McCann Worldgroup Japan.
Mr Cundy will be responsible for overseeing excellence in the targeted and efficient delivery of campaigns for clients who work across multiple MWG disciplines. This will ensure seamless communications and the best access to talent and resources from the complete McCann Worldgroup stable of companies.
A longtime resident of Japan, Mr Cundy completed his Post-Graduate Studies at Tokyo University before beginning his advertising career at Hakuhodo Lintas, working on brands for Unilever, Nestle, Johnson and Johnson and GM. He then spent six years at DDB first as general manager of the Japan office, working with brands such as Volkswagen and Philips, before running the strategy and account services for McDonald’s across Europe, based in London.
Returning to Japan in 2010, Mr Cundy became head of planning and account services for Publicis’ main agency in Japan, Beacon Communications.
Mr Cadell remarked on the move, “I am delighted to have Tony on board. He is representative of our offering in Japan as someone who has deep Japanese insight and understanding, combined with his best in class international experience and knowledge. As McCann Worldgroup refocuses our operations around the opportunities emerging for our Clients in our increasingly digital and data-rich world, Antony’s experience will be invaluable to help us lead the way.”
Mr Cundy commented, “I am truly excited to join MWG in Japan at a time of such great opportunity in the market. Being able to leverage the talent and scale of the largest international network against the usual defaults of Dentsu and Hakuhodo is an inspiring prospect.”
