Facebook enters the sports arena with its own live hub
Getting into the games business, Facebook has now launched a new live feed for sports, or a ‘Sports Stadium’ as it calls it. The hub is a dedicated place to experience sports in real-time with friends and the world.
“Sports is a global interest that connects people around the world. This product makes connecting over sports more fun and engaging, and we will continue listening to feedback to make it even better,” said Steve Kafka, Product Manager at Facebook in a blog post.
Facebook Sports Stadium collates all the content related to a game on Facebook in one place, in real time fashion and a chronological order. The new feature allows people to see posts from their friends, and their comments on plays; posts and commentary from experts, like teams, leagues and journalists, with easy access to their Pages; live scores, stats and a play-by-play; and game info, like where to find the game on TV.
This new feature is going to give competition to the likes of not just ESPN but also Twitter, where its USP of live-tweets have been the feature that have differentiated it from Facebook.
The feature is only available for American football games at the moment but will support other sports around the world like basketball, soccer, and more soon.
