Oculus Rift most associated product with CES
With CES 2016 kicking off, the product most associated with it ahead of the event has been Facebook’s virtual reality handset Oculus Rift, according to data released by Amobee. Oculus Rift was mentioned in 12 per cent of all CES related digital content engagement between December 4, 2015 – January 4, 2016.
The heavily anticipated virtual-reality headset is going to start accepting pre-orders on the device starting January 7, 2016, timed to correspond with the convention.
Among the brands, Samsung took the lead followed by its rival Apple having 95 per cent as much CES related digital content engagement between December 4, 2015 – January 4, 2016. From a Family Hub smart refrigerator that includes a huge touch screen to Welt, a connected belt that doubles as a lifestyle tracker to Rink, a hand motion control for Gear VR to a new line of audio products, Samsung has teased a huge presence at CES this year.
On the other hand, Apple officially has no presence at CES, but like previous years once again the Cupertino-based firm is casting a long shadow over the event; with products being featured at CES, either being made to be compatible with Apple devices or compared to Apple devices.
In the same time period, Sony which is expected to have a huge push around 4K video, had 77 per cent as much CES related digital content engagement as Samsung; while HTC primarily around the Vive launch had 58 per cent as much CES related digital content engagement as Samsung. LG, which will be featuring a flexible HD screen that can be rolled up like a newspaper was mentioned in 49 per cent as much CES related digital content engagement as Samsung between December 4 – January 4.
HTC Vive, another anticipated virtual reality system was mentioned in 11 per cent of all CES related digital content engagement between December 4, 2015 – January 4, 2016; around the announcement that they’d unveil a big technological breakthrough at the convention.
Meanwhile competing platform, PlayStation VR was mentioned in 10 per cent of all CES related digital content engagement in the same time period. It’s been widely speculated that an update around the Playstation 4 compatible device will be announced at the Sony keynote.
Around four per cent of all CES related digital content engagement mentioned the VW Microbus; an electric concept car update of the brand’s classic Camper vehicle; while the Galaxy S7, which Samsung may or may not choose to debate this week; was also mentioned in two per cent of all CES related digital content engagement.
About 22 per cent of all CES related digital content engagement mentioned smartphones. In the same time period, 18 per cent of CES related digital content engagement discussed laptops, 16 per cent of CES related digital content engagement brought up Tablets, 11 per cent of CES related digital content engagement referenced Fitness Trackers, while 10 per cent of CES related digital content engagement discussed 4K TVs. Also notably in the last month, seven per cent of all CES digital engagement was on content mentioning drones.
Around the Microbus concept, Volkswagen was the Auto brand most associated with CES, with Ford having 62 per cent as much CES related digital content engagement as Volkswagen. Among other notables, Faraday Future had 19 per cent as much CES related digital content engagement as Volkswagen in the month leading up to the event. While the mysterious Faraday Future might ultimately make a far more substantial splash around the debut of their Batmobile like electric concept car; ahead of the convention there’s far more interest around VW’s electric concept car because of the legacy nostalgia around the Microbus brand.
Ahead of the event actually starting, there were 332K Tweets mentioning CES between December 4, 2015 – January 4, 2016.
