WhatsApp launches a desktop version

Mobile messaging platform WhatsApp has now launched a desktop version for its users. The desktop version is synced with the phone and allows access to all the conversations from the phone.

In a company blog, WhatsApp said, “Today, for the first time, millions of you will have the ability to use WhatsApp on your web browser. Our web client is simply an extension of your phone: the web browser mirrors conversations and messages from your mobile device – this means all of your messages still live on your phone.”

Currently the desktop version is only available for Google Chrome and for Android users. When a user opens the website, they will see a QR code. Users need to scan the code inside of Whatsapp to get connected.

However for the desktop version to work, the phone needs to stay connected to the internet.

The company added, “Unfortunately for now, we will not be able to provide web client to our iOS users due to Apple platform limitations.”
