2009 Reasons to Enjoy Singapore

First weekend of March was also the final weekend of the Singapore Tourism Board’s “2009 Reasons to Enjoy Singapore” SMS initiative. An initiative which gave the participating attractions a rise in their visitor numbers by some 20 per cent.

The idea: 2009 free tickets were issued at each attraction for three weekends – members of the public should show a promotional text message on their mobile phones to gain free entry.

Tickets at four of the five tourist attractions have been fully redeemed. The Singapore River Cruise was one of them. At the Singapore Flyer, over 10,000 people queued up for free tickets over the three weekends and all the free tickets to the Singapore Bird Park and Sentosa Island were snapped up as well.

Desirene Ho, assistant director, Marketing & Communications, National Museum of Singapore, said: “It’s a short term solution with long term benefits. We do see more visitors coming in. We feel that if they take a first step in here and they like us, they will continue to come and support us.”

All in all a simple idea and a successful campaign, IF people keep coming back and hopefully they will…
